We met Madeleine at the University of Melbourne this morning. She showed us the lab where she studies and gave us a tour of the campus. The "bee hotel" in a door and clock tower were some of our favorite places. There is also a doorway that once led to a bank vault but today leads to an underground parking area featured in movies including one of the Mad Max versions. The campus is leafy and has nice arched stone passageways.
The next stop was the Queen Victoria Market. Known locally as the "Vic Market," it is a covered area several blocks in size and you can buy just about anything inside. We plan to come back for groceries when we stay with Madeleine in December.
The next stop was afternoon tea at the Windsor Hotel. On the way there we visited some shopping arcades. The arcades were decorated for Christmas and our timing included the chiming of the hour by Gog and Magog.
The Windsor Hotel has been serving afternoon tea - in the British tradition as they note - for 140 years. We enjoyed our tea and both the savory and sweet treats they provided in two different tray services. The tea selection included a flowering tea that was unusual and nice to drink.
