DAY 20: Saturday, December 2. PORT ARTHUR

Our day started with a visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site.  It served as a prison for the most difficult convicts in the colony.  Much of the original site was damaged by wildfires.  We visited some of the remaining ruins, a few  repaired buildings and took a ferry ride around the site.

At the Commandant's house (shown above).
                       Ray in convict chains.
Cell in solitary confinement section (shown above).
Shipyard. Many ships were built here in the early years of the prison.

In the afternoon we visited the UnZoo.  We met some Tasmanian Devils and were able to feed the kangaroos.  There are also some eels on the grounds.  When it rains they can come from the ocean to the fresh water areas by holding their breath and moving across the land.
